i do remember! thats INCREDIBLE! congratulations!! what did you do to get it down so quickly?? I’m so proud of what you’ve accomplished, you’re taking care of yourself and therefore removing the high chance of complications later. amazing, congrats again

Another great video Karolina, I have had DKA twice both times when I was alot younger, 6 and 8 years old but I still remember how bad it made me feel and both times in hospital for several days.

Great to see you back, keep fighting and keep winning 🙂

@Karolina Pawelek When I was diagnosed with T1 I had full blown DKA and got rushed to the hospital. You are right, it is absolutely horrible, hits you like a freight train, and wreaks havoc on your body. BG level was ~360, which is not THAT high compared to other diagnosis stories, but the ketone body levels went through the roof. It took doctors almost a week to flush them all out, and even large dosages of IV (!!) insulin barely worked until they were gone. Easily one of the worst weeks of my life.

thank you my friend. its a terrible feeling and it really does take a toll on your body. it took me about 3 days to fully regain my strength and feel okay. look forward to hearing from you as always

Thank you for sharing your story. It is important for people to share their stories so that others can learn and pay attention to their own symptoms! DKA Awareness is crucial.

We’re you in pain when you went into dka? I was recently in the hospital for dka and was in such intense pain I couldn’t function, I was not coherent or anything. I’m just curious if other diabetics experience that

Whilst reading this https://t.co/gMtH8bDwLF , my blood sugar level is 300 and my A1c was 11.5%. That is what I have come across two months ago. I exactingly adopted it . And it worked for me personally. I could not contain my joy as I discovered that my average PP sugar level was lowered to One hundred forty.

You definitely want to limit the amount you drink when you’re feeling like you don’t have enough. May be a leader or so at a time. Because if you drink too much it could affect other things. But good story, I’ve had that happen to me on occasion with my blood sugar being in the 700s, and then dropping low because of insulin. Although I never know what my sugar is until I test it because I don’t seem to be sensitive to wet my sugar levels are. I know it’s weird but I can’t feel highs or lows.

I am 22 and got diagnosed with type 1 around Easter with DKA, was in hospital for 6 days. It was a horrible experience for me as I had the symptoms that you described over the course of a couple of days so it really made me think how lucky I am that I didn’t go into a coma as type 1 diabetes and DKA ever crossed my mind. Thanks for another great video and I am glad your back making videos.

@Karolina Pawelek It was hard at first but videos like yours helped me loads to come to turns with it and learn to deal with it a lot, waiting for my first HBA1c result back, which my blood sugars have been between 5 and 7

    2. Karolina Pawelek

Wheezy oh wow I’m so sorry you went through that. You are definitely very lucky that you were able to get the help you needed without any serious damage. How are you doing now? How are you adjusting to life with diabetes ?

Hi hun! So recently in the past couple of months I occasionally get dizzy including the following- hot flashes, stomachache (sometimes), and then I have had a time when I have tried to talk but just could not get the words out of my mouth or I mess up on what I’m saying on accident, I have had times where my vision goes black and even times when things look 3D almost like being drunk but I’m not. Do you think these could be possible be symptoms of diabetes? A lot of family on my mothers dad side are diabetic. Plus extreme fatigue when waking up in the morning, and very bad headaches first thing after I wake up. Sorry for the long comment, and thank you so much for your video!

Thank you for sharing Karolina! I have always heard about dka but never knew what it really was about. The highest I have ever been was around 370! Im doing what i can to keep it under control. Those big drops can be tiring. When I had the same eye surgery done I was @ 58 cause I couldn’t eat anything. I come out of surgery & they check it again, I’m at 175. Needles to say after all that I needed a nap LoL. I’m sorry you had to find out the hard way. I guess that’s one way to learn! Glad your back, & hope your doing well. Looking forward to the next video ????

Anesthesia raises blood sugar I’ve noticed after surgery i usually average 200 until its completely out of my system. 370 being your highest is an accoplishment. i think most poeple i know with T1D have hit upwards of 450 or 500. i so glad you’re doing well and keeping your sugars under control!! its always good to hear from you. stay healthy and well xo

Thank you for sharing this. It is so important. My adult son had DKA…….that’s how we found out he had type 1 diabetes. Started out thinking he had bronchitis because he was run down and coughing. Took him to a quick care thinking we’d head home with antibiotics…….so wrong, ended up in the hospital where his heart stopped 3 times. A total miracle that he survived and is still with us. In hindsight I remember things that should have been red flags, but didn’t notice it at the time. He would drink tons of water, and sometimes his breath smell like nail polish remover. Otherwise he looked fine, so didn’t concern me. I’m so glad you called for an ambulance and got taken care of. Thanks again for sharing your story, it could seriously save someone. Have a great day! 🙂

    1. Karolina Pawelek

Vickiet253 oh wow how scary! I’m so glad he is okay. It’s such a dangerous condition and you’re right we just don’t notice the red flags at the moment when in hind sight we knew something wasn’t right. My hope is to help people and to bring awareness because I felt so ignorant for such a long time. Honestly we just learn from going through things but it’s always good to feel like we really not alone.

Thank you for being the support I need right now. I went into dka twice, when I was diagnosed and then again about a week ago. I’m only 18 and it’s very scary and painful and it’s all because I didn’t want to accept my diabetes and take care of myself. It caused a kidney infection that got to my blood, thankfully I had plenty of wonderful doctors and nurses take care of me. I’m trying to get back on track and live my life while taking care of myself because after seeing my mom cry because of how much pain I was in made me feel so selfish. It’s hard to explain to people who don’t have diabetes how frustrating it can be to stay on top of everything but in the end it’s always going to be there and the only thing I can do is take control of it.

    1. Karolina Pawelek

i don’t really get muscle cramping BUT i get VERY restless at night. sometimes if i try to sit through a movie i have to keep moving my legs and arms because they hurt so much. (not sure if its the same as actual cramping) i read up on this being a symptom of diabetes and I researched that stress and caffeine can bring on these muscle cramps/paints.
