Thank you so much to the mom and child for letting us see the physical representation of what kussmaul breathing is. As a nursing student, visuals really help me better understand and see what I need to be looking for in my patients for assessment. Thank you so much!
Thank you so much to the mom for sharing, I know it’s hard for a mother to see her child in this situation. As a nurse, these real live videos help a lot to understand different types of breathing patterns. Once again, thank you!
Tell the mother thank you so much for allowing this video to post on Youtube! As a medical student, seeing this is absolutely unforgettable, as opposed to reading a boring textbook, which is easy to forget. I never could keep straight what Kussmaul breathing actually is, until I saw this. And thanks to the medical staff for the text explanations with the lab values. That also helped.
Oh this breaks my heart. I almost died from DKA a month ago and it was scary as a 30 year old. I can’t imagine how hard it is for this baby and his Mama. I wish them the best ❤️
Cheers. As a nursing student these videos tend to cement my learning.
Glad this is helpful!!
Big thank you to the mother for letting us all see and learn!
Thanks to you and to this angel’s mama for the teaching! I’ve been a nurse for over 30 years, and have never seen this!
You are welcome!
poor little guy. Things like this put me back in check when it comes to thinking life is tough for me.
Based on perspective
@electricfields1 Dude DKA sucks but you’ll recover quickly. And once you start carb counting and using a glucose sensor, things become second nature.
For me I had fully recovered within a month, although I now have persistent left sided pneumothorax partly as a result of DKA.
I have type one diabetes, and when he gets older, managing will get way easier. He is most likely healthy and happy.

I’ve breathed like this when I had DKA. Of course, what I mostly remember is feeling like I’d die if I didn’t drink. So thirsty!
