Hi thanks you for sharing ur experience wid dka i am a diabetic in England i am looking to strat up mentoring programmes and support groups do young people wid diabetes. This is great for me to use thank you xx
This video is fantastic. I’m an RN and I know a lot of the facts of diabetes and DKA, but hearing a personal story helps connect me to what patients are going through. Thanks for this video!
This is excellent. Thank you so much. I just got out of the Hospital due to DKA. Thanks for explaining this so well. Your personality is very friendly and personable. I found other videos explaining this but the people were spending more time trying to be funny characters for You tube, that I was lost in understand what they were teaching. And it became annoying to me. You are a great teacher. No fluff, no silly voices and strange character faces just real teaching. Thanks for helping me to truly understand what happened to me.
I’ve had this happened to me 2 times, 2nd time I thought I was going to die I threw up a total of 18-20 time my stomach pain was horrible, it took for that to happen to always have a vial of insulin with me and a syringe just in case my pump stops working.
Very informative video taught me a lot i have a friend who is very depressed due to episodes of dka occuring atleast once every 2 months i didnt kno what it was but im willing to help him and make him feel life is worth living i just was wondering do you have an advice on diet to help with this xxxx sarah xxxx thankyou xxx
18 months ago, I had to go to the hospital, thinking all I had was severe dehydration and unquenchable thirst. Before, that a host of other symptoms started developing including tingling of my finger tips, extreme fatigue, and puking. What really was the last straw was losing 7 lbs. in 24 hrs. for the last two days in a row. It turned out I had a 842 level and my A1c was a 15.
I don’t know if that could’ve been the start of DKA, but I’m just so thankful I went to the hospital in time.
I found out I was diabetic when I ended up in the emergency room with DKA and a blood sugar around 400. I never want to feel that way again. Thanks for making this video to remind us and inform others about how serious this condition is.
I recently went to the hospital for DKA I would love to be able to speak with you about this more. I was diagnosed 4 years ago but I was completely in denial about the consequences of high blood sugar. I honestly kept living my life as if i was not a diabetic even though i seen two of my family members die from complications. But ever since the DKA I am more aware of what i’m doing to my body and I am looking for people that can help me learn more and better educate myself.
My son had an absolute first this week while home sick from school. A hypo and ketones. I had no idea what to do, but it worked out thankfully because I was worried we were going to the ER for DKA. Phew!
thank you Ginger for this video! I’m a T1 diabetic but on Invokana. there’s some evidence that while on invokana there is a higher chance of going into DKA even with a relatively normal blood sugar! but i’ve never experienced DKA and in fact, out of the 3 endos i’ve had over the very short time i’ve been T1 (5 years), not one doctor talked to me about it our explained that i should be testing my ketones. now that i’m on invokana, i’ve learned more about dka and now have the test strips to check. i’ve had high BG’s due to pump occulsions, but never experienced any of the symptoms you’ve described, thank god, and i hope that i never will!
Don’t think I’ve ever experienced DKA ..
I Felt rough through having high blood sugars.. But check my blood alot and never skip or miss insulin before meals.
that is awesome hearing from a “person” rather than a medical/diagnostic point of view – as a nursing student, (and a Diabetic) great for me to watch. Thanks Ginger.
