Which one is best for Diabetic Retinopathy Laser or Injections? – Dr. Elankumaran P
The treatment of diabetic retinopathy depends on the stage of retinopathy and the amount of retina that is involved and the thickness of the retina. These are calculated by a special apparatus called OCT or Occcular Coherence Tomography. Depending on this w e decide if treatment is required or no treatment is required. If treatment is required in the form of lasers, injections into the eye or surgeries. Usually a combination of the two, that is lasers and injections are used for sever stages of retinopathy .For the initial stages, only lasers are required. In a very severe stage, we do a surgery called victrectomy which involves a surgery, lasers as well as injections into the eye.
